Sabye D Resort, Surat Thani

Sabye D Resort, Surat Thani

The Sabye D Resort, Surat Thani is conveniently located near the very center of Surat Thani town, just across the old bridge in the middle of town, at the very first crossing. You can't miss it.
It's a quiet and relaxed area with plenty of very good Thai restaurants along the river and on the small island in the middle of the river.

There's also a 7-11 directly next to the hotel, which add to the convenience and during my visit they were also selling soup just outside of the hotel and looking at the amount of visitors to the soup shop, it must be of very good quality.

The rooms are adequate and cheap. It's a bit noisy but it didn't disturb me and the rooms have all the basic convenience you need nowadays, a small fridge, a TV an air con plus a bathroom.

The duplex suite room is great if you travel with children, don't forget to bring some extra bedding, like a blanket. There are also plenty of smaller and even cheaper rooms available. Since the hotel is next to the river, there may be some mosquitoes in the room.

I can recommend this resort, simple yet delivering all you need at a very good price and near the city center and all the town has to offer. Next time in Surat Thani we will visit the new water park, of which we heard great reports. A review will come shortly.

Grand Thara Hotel, Surat Thani

Grand Thara Hotel, Surat Thani

The Grand Thara Hotel, Surat Thani comes in sight almost every time we visit downtown Surat Thani, that's how centrally located this hotel is. It's at one of the corners of one of the biggest crossings in downtown, opposite the City Pillar and a bridge, it's kind of hard to miss.

It's also located within walking distance from many eateries and shops, very convenient in the evenings.

The hotel is old, and it comes with stunning 172 rooms and you will be treated to a nostalgia trip with all its ups and downs. The rooms are big and still clean, but the furniture is straight out of a 1970-tees movie. I must admit I like these kind of hotels, to a degree. The Grand Thara Hotel, Surat Thani is good enough to not get turned off and they have a surprisingly fair breakfast buffet in the morning.

For a central location in downtown Surat Thani in olden and in an long gone by style, this hotel is good for a transfer to or from the Gulf islands and it comes with a very decent price tag.

100 Islands Resort & Spa, Surat Thani

The 100 Islands Resort & Spa has been around since a few years near Surat Thani town and has been a favorite of us over the years.

It has a staggering 174 rooms, lots of parking space and a good Thai restaurant. Their pool is interesting, it looks like a small river in a corner of the hotel, including the green(-ish) water.
It's near the new Central Plaza and a big Tesco Lotus is across the busy 4 (or is it 6?) lane road.

The rooms are spacious and the rates are affordable, breakfast is a fairly standard Thai affair. If you need a stopover going to or coming from the airport this is an excellent choice.

Naraya Riverside resort, Surat Thani

The Naraya Riverside Resort is tucked away in the backstreets of Southern Surat Thani town, near the big traffic crossing to Phun Phin and Chumporn and the Central Festival.
If you don't have wheels to get you there and get out again for dinner or other things to do, you might feel as if you're locked up in the middle of nowhere.
However, if you have wheels there, it's a nice resort, with 28 rooms just waiting to welcome you in a very quiet and relaxed environment with a pool, gym and a small children's playground.

It's a really good choice for our weekend stays in Surat city at very affordable prices. You may want to try it as well.

Wangtai Hotel, Surat Thani

The Wangtai Hotel in Surat Thani town is fairly centrally located, next to the river and on the main road through the city. It's a typical older style Thai provincial hotel, not too modern anymore, maybe a little bit worn out at places but still providing a good deal.
They have 230 rooms on offer and are well known for their meetings during the week and weddings during the weekends.
The hotel offers a very nice pool, good parking facilities and internet in the rooms plus a fairly decent breakfast with Asian and Western options.

Nothing spectacular but a good and fair option for a sleepover on your way to or from the islands or to/from the airport.

The Centrino Serviced Residence, Surat Thani

There are more and more new hotels surfacing in the provincial cities and Surat Thani is no exception. The Centrino is centrally located and is mostly used by travelers on transit to or from the islands (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao).
We use it a lot when we need to be in the Surat Thani town, it's easy, cheap and convenient for us.
There is no elevator, so a room on the top floor may be slightly inconvenient when checking and/or out.

Then hotel has a car park and the internet in the rooms is fast! A basic, simple and straightforward hotel with nice and big enough rooms at a very reasonable price!

Kaew Samui Resort, Surat Thani

Kaew Samui Resort, Surat Thani

Is located on the 401 ring road that leads around the city and is a good choice if you're 'stuck' in Surat Thani on your way to the islands or on your way to Bangkok coming from the South. Shopping malls are nearby, the city is nearby and the ferries in Donsak to Koh Samui and the other islands are just under an hour away. The hotel (it's really not a resort!) is located in an industrial area though and is mainly catering to Thai business people. Without means of transportation it will be hard to get around.
The restaurant is nice and free wifi is available, ask at check in and it's a newly build hotel.

Low prices are a plus, it's convenient and just what you need for a night's stay in Surat if you don't want or need to be in the city!

Diamond Plaza, Surat Thani town

Diamond Plaza, Surat Thani town

Whenever we travel to the main land and we end up in Surat Thani for a night, we stay at this hotel, near the center of Surat Thani town.

The Diamond Plaza is fairly no nonsense hotel, but it has clean rooms, over 400 deluxe and suite guestrooms and they have wifi on most floors. Very convenient.

Their American breakfast is nothing special but has the basics but there's a wide selection of Asian breaky food.

The hotel further supports a gym and a swimming pool and is very popular during the week for business meetings and in the weekends for weddings.

Excellent value for money but not very charming.
